Update: Week of May 6

Here is an update for our week ahead:

Math: We will have our math test on Wednesday. We will review today and the review page should come home in your child’s homework folder. We have learned about unit fractions, fractions on a number line, equivalent fractions, and comparing fractions.
Continue to have your child practice multiplication and division facts on MobyMax.

Reading: We continue with our biography research and are in the process of writing our final drafts. A bright yellow note went home last week about the biography presentation and the living museum. Be sure to go over this with your child and start brainstorming the presentation.

Writing: This week we will review informational writing and complete our post assessment.

Social Studies: We are learning about the 3 branches of Government and each of their roles. Look for test review pages to come home in the next week.

TONIGHT is Culver’s Night. Stop in and eat any time from 5-8pm and a portion of the earnings goes toward our school!

EARLY RELEASE: this Friday, May 10 is an early release. Dismissal is at 12:15pm.

Update: Week of April 8

I hope you all had a great spring break and you enjoyed some rest and fun with family and friends!

Here’s an update for our week ahead:

Writing: We are working on responding to a text in writing and we are practicing using strategies so that we can write a clear and complete response. We are also practicing typing out our writing.

Math: We will be finishing up learning about area and perimeter and will be doing some test review at the end of the week. We will plan to have our test next Tuesday, April 16. Please help your child to continue working on multiplication facts at home. We will be nearing the end of our weekly practice pages in the coming weeks.

Reading: We continue to read and study biographies. This week,  your child will be choosing the person that they will read, research, and present. There will be a note coming home in the next week about how you can help your child gather information.

COMING UP:
EARLY RELEASE: this Friday, April 12. Dismissal is at 12:15.

M STEP Testing Dates:
The M-STEP State testing for grades 3-5 will take place this spring. Please avoid all doctors appointments and vacation days on the dates that your child is scheduled to participate in the state wide M-STEP testing.  Thank you for your attention to these dates.

NOTE: If your child is ill, we will administer the tests on make-up dates.  Do not send your child to school ill. We ask only that you avoid late arrivals, doctor appointments and vacation days on the dates listed below.

Grade 5 – April 16 – 25

Grade 4 – May 7 – 16

**Grade 3 – April 30 – May 2

IMPORTANT TESTING DAY TIPS:
  1. Get plenty of sleep

  2. Arrive to school on time.

  3. Bring:  2 healthy snacks and a water bottle.

  4. Remind your child that all of our learning all year long has prepared us for these tests.  This is our opportunity to show what we know and do our very best! Remind your child do use their Growth Mindset skills we have learned in 3rd grade!

Week of June 4: our last week!!

I can’t believe it! The last week of school! It has been a fabulous year of learning, fun, and friendships! Thank you for all the ways you have supported your child’s education.

A few things:
Make sure your child has their backpack each day this week. You will see folders and papers coming home. We are cleaning out lockers and desks!

Remind your third grader to return library books. 

Friday is a half day. Dismissal is at 12:15pm. 

 

Our class did an outstanding job of presenting their biography research work today!! Thanks to all who came to see our museum. Check it out:

Week of May 21

  • We are working hard on end of the year assessments with reading and writing and we are also spending time doing some math review too! We are finishing strong over the next few weeks!
  • BIOGRAPHY PROJECT: Hopefully you have seen the project note come home as well as the invitation. Help your child plan to dress like the person they researched and/or make a visual to represent their research. You are invited to our Living Museum on Monday, June 4. Please look for an invitation to come home!
  • Multiplication Fluency Practice: We will have our practice page this Friday. Please ask your third grader what facts they should be practicing so they can continue to make progress! Look for last Friday’s practice page to come home.
  • Homework: Please help your third grader to continue working on reading and math fact practice as homework. This is critical not only near the end of the year, but also throughout the summer.
  • We will have our Core Democratic Value Test on Wednesday. This was part of our social studies unit on public issues. A review page will come home today.
  • We go to library on Friday. Please remind your third grader to bring back their books so they can get new ones.

Week of May 14

  • We will not have a homework packet consistently for the remainder of the school year. If a homework page is sent home, I will let you know. The expectation is that students continue with weekly work of reading and math practice by way of flashcards, math apps, practice pages, MobyMax, etc.
  • BIOGRAPHY PROJECT: Look for a note to come home today! This will give you information about the project your child will work on.
    You are invited to our Living Museum on Monday, June 4. Please look for an invitation to come home!
  • Multiplication Fluency Practice: We will have our practice page this Friday. Please ask your third grader what facts they should be practicing so they can continue to make progress! Look for last Friday’s practice page to come home.
  • MobyMax as homework practice:  Third graders will need to log onto Clever to access MobyMax. Let me know if you have forgotten how to do this. There is a link on the right side of the blog under AT HOME links.  I will also continue to have all kids practice fluency here at school.
  • We will have our Science Test on Wednesday. This will cover animal classification and animal adaptations.  A review page will come home today.
  • We go to library on Friday. Please remind your third grader to bring back their books so they can get new ones.
    Thank you for the treats and notes last week during Teacher Appreciation Week!! I felt so loved. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to teach your children each day. Thank you for supporting their learning.

 

 

Week of April 30

  • We will not have a homework packet consistently for the remainder of the school year. At this point in the year we are focusing on other areas and gearing up for MSTEP. If a homework page is sent home, I will let you know. The expectation is that students continue with weekly work of reading and math practice by way of flashcards, math apps, practice pages, moby max, etc.
  • Multiplication Fluency Practice: We will have our practice page this Friday. Please ask your third grader what facts they should be practicing so they can continue to make progress!
  • MobyMax as homework practice:  This is the last day for the MobyMax contest. Students can earn 1 point for each question they answer correctly within a lesson topic that is passed. Top 5 students in our class earn a prize and the next 25 will earn a smaller prize. Please use this as homework practice.
    Third graders will need to log onto Clever to access MobyMax. Let me know if you have forgotten how to do this. There is a link on the right side of the blog under AT HOME links.  I will also continue to have all kids practice fluency here at school.
  • We go to library on Friday. Please remind your third grader to bring back their books so they can get new ones.
  • Biography research homework: Please help your third grader look up a picture of the person they are researching. They should print it off and bring it to school this week. If you do not have a printer at home, please let me know. Thanks!
  • AS A REMINDER: Third grade M-STEP testing begins this week.
     It is important that students get an adequate amount of sleep and a healthy breakfast before school. Also, provide extra nutritional snacks on the testing days, along with a water bottle. Thank you!

Reminders:

M-STEP testing starts tomorrow. A good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast will be extra important this week! We will not have a homework packet, but daily reading and math fact practice should continue.

Look for information to come home this week regarding the biography project. May 26 will be our biography museum celebration.

May 2-5: M-STEP testing for 3rd grade
**It will be important for students to get enough sleep and a healthy breakfast in the
morning.

May 23:  Field trip to DeGraaf Nature Center
**A note was sent home about this a few weeks ago. Be sure to send in $1 by May 19.

May 26:  Biography Presentations
**Students will be presenting their biography research in the form of a museum.

As it nears the end of the year, we want to make sure the daily routines of reading and practicing multiplication facts continues. Keeping that routine through the school year will help continue practice through the summer months too.
