Update: Week of November 11

Writing: We continue working on our persuasive speeches. We are learning about how we write to our audience while using convincing words.

Math: We have been working on 2 step word problems. These can be tricky! Today, we started our math review for our test on Wednesday. The review will come home tomorrow. Please help your third grader by going over word problems and continuing to practice multiplication facts.

EXAMPLES TO PRACTICE:
1. The pet shop had 8 cages of mice, with 4 mice in each cage. 5 mice escaped. How many mice were left in the pet shop?

2. I baked 47 cookies, but 7 were burned and thrown away. The rest were shared equally among 8 people. How many cookies did each person get?

Reading: We continue our study of mystery books. Our third graders are becoming great detectives and are using helpful strategies to solve the mysteries in their books. We have learned about using a chapter timeline and collecting clues and suspects. They are becoming great thinkers as they read!

Social Studies: We started learning about the vegetation and climate of Michigan.

Homework:
Reading and Math Fact Log due every Monday.
Please help your child remember to sign on the days they read and practice facts.

A FEW REMINDERS:

WINTER GEAR: Please remember to send all the winter gear with your third grader. It is so helpful if it is labeled with your child’s name, too! We still have recess on cold and snowy days and the playground gets wet. Thank you for your help with this!

SNACK: Our class has one snack break in the morning. Please pack your child a healthy snack to support their learning. Please make sure the snack is separate from their lunch and that your child knows where the snack is placed in their backpack. Thank you!

BIRTHDAYS: If your child chooses to share something with the class on their birthday, our policy is no food. Your child can bring in items such as stickers, pencils, bookmarks, erasers, etc. to share with the class or you may choose to donate a book to the class. Thank you!

MOBYMAX: Please help your child remember to log on MobyMax to practice their math facts. Some students have made it to their multiplication and division facts! YAY!! Keep up the great work!
