Happy Holidays!

Parents,

Just a few things before we head into Holiday break:

Last week I stopped by Love INC to drop off a bag of socks, gloves, hats, and mittens that our class collected. They were so grateful for this donation! Thank you so much for your participation. Here is a picture of the bag I dropped off:

Homework over Holiday Break: I will not be sending a reading/math fact log over break. Please help your child to continue the routine of reading and math fact practice over the next two weeks. It will be crucial to keep this routine as it is important for our third graders to keep building on their progress even over a break from school. Thanks for your help in your third grader’s success!

Polar Express Party: We had a great time at our Polar Express party yesterday. Thanks so much for all the volunteers and donations. We appreciate it and couldn’t do it without all the help! Check out this video of some pictures:

**On Monday, January 6, our class will have P.E. so please remind your third grader to have their gym shoes at school. I know some students brought their shoes home.

I hope you have a wonderful Holiday break filled with family, friends, fun, and some rest! I look forward to starting a new year and new learning with our third graders on January 6th!

Third Grade Polar Express Party!

Parents,

We have been hard at work as a Third Grade Team getting all the details set for the big Polar Express Party! As a reminder, the party will be next Thursday, December 19th from 9-10:30 am.

Each classroom teacher will be able to have ten parent volunteers (40 total volunteers for the grade). We will be prioritizing parents who were not able to be a part of the Halloween party or class field trip; if we have fewer than ten interested parents who were NOT a part of either of those events, we will do a “lottery” like drawing for the remaining parents interested. Unfortunately due to how large this event is in a small space, we will not be able to have any parents except those who have been confirmed by the teacher as volunteers come to the party. Thank you for your understanding in this!

Please note that parent volunteers will need:

1) To have a background check filled out

2) To be to school by 8:30 am the day of the party

3) To have alternate plans for younger siblings (because there are already 100 students and 44 adults all in one space!)

Please email us about interest in volunteering by the end of the school day this Friday, December 13th. Please also consider helping out by signing up to donate party supplies on the Sign Up Genius HERE, as well. This can also be found on the blog.

Thanks so much – we are looking forward to next Thursday!

Thank you for all your generous gifts. I love teaching your children.
I wish you a very happy holiday!!

Holiday Party and Science Test!

Just a reminder to send in $1.00 for the holiday party and also send in a gift for the gift exchange. Boys bring in a boy gift and girls bring in a girl  gift ($3-$5).

Please see this note from Ms VanderStel regarding science next week:
We are wrapping up our Animal Adaptations Unit today.  The students did very well on the quiz they took yesterday.
Next week we are going to do a short unit on Sound.  We will have a test on this unit on Friday.  I know. . .it’s just before CHRISTMAS BREAK!!!!  But it is a fun unit with a lot of experiments.  I think the students will enjoy it and do very well.  To get a jump start on the vocabulary, they can visit my blog and find, Sound, under the science tab.

On Wednesday, we will be needing a watch that ticks.  If you have a watch that ticks and wouldn’t mind us borrowing it, please send it in to school by Wednesdaymorning.
 Thank you!

This Week…

We are looking forward to an exciting week. Here are a few reminders:

Gifts ($3-$5) for the gift exchange were due today. Please let me know if this is a problem. I have extra gifts and I’m happy to share. Also, don’t forget to send in $1.00 for the party.

Wednesday is the day to wear Holiday gear. Find those santa hats or reindeer antlers and all your red and green!

Friday is our party! Your third grader may wear their pajamas!!

Wishing you all a Happy Holidays! Enjoy your break!  🙂

Holiday Reminders

Hi Families,

On Wednesday we will be going to the holiday shop. A note went home last week with the envelope attached. If you would like your child to do some shopping, please send in the envelope with money by Wednesday. Thanks!!

Christmas Party News!
Last week two notes went home- one red and one green. We will have our Polar Express Christmas party on Friday, December 21 from 9:15-10:30. We would like each child to bring in $1.00 to cover the cost of the party.  Also, your child should bring in a gift for the gift exchange. Girls bring in a girl gift and boys bring in a boy gift. Please have your child put their name on the gift so we know who to thank. The gift should be $3.00-$5.00.
The red note was to be sent back if you are able to donate to the party. I will be informing you of what item to bring later this week. Thank you in advance!

Miss Van Arkel  🙂

Holiday Party!

Our third grade Holiday party will take place Friday, December 16th from 9:15-10:30 a.m. All third grade classes participate in the party together in the multi-purpose room. Please look for two notes coming home about this.
The red note explains the gift exchange we will do. Boys bring a boy gift and girls bring a girl gift. Please do not spend more than $5.00 on a gift. Wrap it and make sure it says who it is from. Also, each child will need to bring $2.00 to cover the cost of the party.
The green note asks for donations. If you are able to donate, please check the item you would be able to donate. I will notify you by December 5th.

Thank You in advance!     Miss Van Arkel  🙂

3rd Grade News

Tonight’s Homework: Writer’s notebooks went home tonight. Your child has chosen a story to finish, edit, fix, etc. Please have them work on finishing that story and then rereading it to do any editing. We will be working on these stories in class as well in case more time is needed to finish. Please return the writer’s notebook tomorrow.

A note went home today about our holiday part on Friday, December 18. Please read this with your third grader. We will also be talking more about this in class. Thanks!
