See you on Monday!!

Third Grade Families,

It was great meeting you and your third grader last night! We are going to have a wonderful group this year and I look forward to learning together!

FOR YOUR INFORMATION
I want to share a couple more things for you to know about third grade and our classroom:

Forms to turn in: At open house, you picked up an envelope from the office as well as your child’s folder. There were forms in the envelope from the office and there were a few surveys from me in your child’s daily folder.  All of these forms should be brought back to school sometime next week. Thank you!

Snack: Please help your child to pack a healthy snack to eat during our morning snack time each day. On occasion, some students forget their snack and I try to keep a snack here for those times. Thank you for your snack donations!

Background Check: In order to volunteer at our school (field trip, class events, help in the class, etc.), you will need to fill out a background check form. You can fill out the form HERE.

Birthdays: We like to celebrate birthdays/half birthdays in our class. We celebrate by singing to our classmate (if they choose) and I give them a special gift. Though not required, some students may wish to bring something for the class. As a school and classroom policy, please do not send in food. Your child may bring in a small gift such as pencils, bookmarks, stickers, erasers, bracelets, etc. Something simple or useful usually works best. Another option is to donate a book or game in your child’s honor that the whole class can enjoy. Thank you for your help with this!

Specials: Here is our specials schedule-
Day 1- PE
Day2-Art
Day3-Steam
Day4-Music
We will have PE on the first day of school. Please make sure your child brings gym shoes to school.

We will start library in a few weeks. Our library day will be on Tuesday.

I am excited to see our great group of third graders on Monday!!  🙂

News This Week!

Parents,
A few things to know about this coming week:

  • Multiplication Flashcards: We have started learning multiplication and have begun with the 5s facts. We have been learning different ways to understand multiplication- drawings, repeated addition, and arrays. Your child has a flashcard folder. This will come home each night for practice and should be sent back each day to school so they can be used in class.
  • Library: We have library on Wednesday. You may have seen books come home last week. Your child’s goal is to make sure they choose at least 2 good-fit books and they may choose 1 for fun. Please help your child remember to return books to school when they are done.
  • Homework Packet: A homework packet is coming home today (Monday). It will be due next Monday. The packet consists of 2 math pages and a reading and math fact log.
  • Social Studies: Our first unit is Michigan Geography. We have been studying relative and absolute location. A study guide will come home today. We will have a quiz on Wednesday.
  • Spelling: Spelling and Word Study will start next week.

Thank you!
Let me know if you have questions.

A Great First Day!

Parents,
We had a wonderful day today! This is a great group of kids and I’m lucky to be their teacher this year!
We talked a lot about classroom routines and procedures today and we spent some time getting to know each other too. We also shared our summer celebration. Tomorrow we will start writing about that summer memory.

Please take a moment to read some information I have put together about third grade. Let me know if you have any questions. I am not aware of any food allergies in our classroom, but please let me know if I need to be made aware.
Thank you!

3rd Grade Update:

Parents,
Check out what we have been learning in 3rd grade:

Writing: We are working on opinion writing. We will form an opinion sentence and work hard to support our big idea with evidence from our life. Ask your child what their opinion sentence is!

Social Studies: This week we will finish up our unit by learning about the different regions of Michigan. We will review and have the Geography test on Friday!

Math: We continue working on learning multiplication facts. Consistent practice of facts at home will help tremendously with our classroom math work. We are using multiplication and division with word problems and finding area.

Reading: We are learning more about characters and learning to notice what the character says and does as we read. This helps us describe the character and make predictions. We are reading Because of WInn-Dixie and we are learning to think and respond well as a reader.

News from 3rd Grade!

Parents,
We have had a great first week in class! This is a great group and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to teach them this year!

Today I sent home a homework assignment that is due next Friday. Your third grader will be designing their own puzzle piece to show how each one of us is a special part of our class.

You will also find a green half-size folder that is labeled ‘multiplication facts’. Our first math lesson is learning the 5s facts so today we made our flashcards and put them in the ‘Not Yet’ side until we have practiced them more. This folder will be filled with multiplication facts as we continue on with our lessons. Please keep the flashcards in the blue daily take-home folder so they can be practiced at home and at school each day.
Fact practice will become part of daily homework in the coming week or so.

COMING UP NEXT WEEK:
Monday: STEAM
Tuesday: PE
Wednesday: MUSIC
Thursday: ART
Friday: STEAM      *** Early Dismissal at 12:15pm
