Math Test, Social Studies Quiz, & Homework

Parents,

We will have our unit 1 math test tomorrow. This will cover multiplication and division, multiplication properties, the area model for multiplication, and word problems. We have been reviewing in class the last few days. A great way to review tonight is to practice flashcards.

In social studies we have been learning about how we change and adapt to the environment. We will have a short quiz on this on Wednesday. A review page will come home.

Tonight’s Homework

Social Studies homework is coming home tonight.

The last few days we have been learning about the landforms of Michigan. We have been doing some reading about them and highlighting key words and information.

For homework, your child will do some pre-reading to prepare to learn about the Bodies of Water in Michigan. They should read the information page, highlight key words, and then fill in the chart based on what they read.

Homework Packet

Parents,

I am trying something a little different with homework. Your child will be bringing home a homework packet today. The packet should be completed as homework this week and turned in on Monday, April 27th.  Please note: there is a social studies page that requires parent input.

We will have a social studies test at the end of the week. A separate review will be sent home later in the week.
Thank You!

This Week…

New spelling words are coming home today. We are working on long i and short i patterns.  We will have our spelling test on Friday.

We have been studying movement in Social Studies. Today we reviewed and the review sheet went home tonight. Please take a look at this with your third grader. Tomorrow, we will have a short quiz to check understanding.

Continue practicing multiplication and division facts at home. I sent a page home today that tells about xtra math. It is an online math practice site. Please use that page for directions on how to access it. The site will have each student start out practicing addition and subtraction. When they pass, they move on to multiplication.

Our Halloween Party will be Thursday, Oct. 30 from 2:30-3:30.

Social Studies Quiz Tomorrow

Hi Parents,

In social studies, we have been learning about how we interact with the environment. We do this by modifying and adapting to the environment. We talked about this last week and we reviewed more of this today. We will have a short quiz on this tomorrow to check understanding. A review page will come home tonight.

We took the spelling pretest today and new words are going home. The test will be on Friday.

Geography Map Project

Today, the information went home for the social studies map project. Your child should have 3 things: A Michigan map, a red sheet with directions/rubric, and the natural and human characteristics page (green sheet).  In class we identified the natural characteristics and human characteristics of Michigan. This includes landforms, bodies of water, cities, highways, lighthouses, and bridges.  We have been learning about these and have identified them on the Michigan map.

As part of the project your child should label these places on the Michigan map that was provided.  Don’t forget neatness and color. There is a checklist that also goes with the project to make sure full points are received.

We have identified these characteristics in class, however, your child may need some guidance to label correctly and find specific locations. You may also use any notes from class.

The map is Due Friday, October 10.

Have fun with your map! Let me know if you have any questions!
