Coming Up!!

Hi Parents:

Our Holiday Program is coming up quickly. It will be November 27!
Please read this important information about our holiday program on
our school blog.

We have been working hard in math and have been learning our multiplication facts. We will be reviewing and practicing our facts tomorrow and next Monday. As of right now I am planning on having our Test on Tuesday. I will let you know if we need another day of review and change the test to Wednesday. Please continue to work on the multiplication facts with your third grader. We have learned the 0s 1s 2s 3s 4s 5s 9s and 10s facts.

We do not have school on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Enjoy Thanksgiving Break!!

3rd Grade Update!

We have many things going on in the next two weeks. Check it out:

Friday will be our math test on telling time and elapsed time. We will review on Thursday.

New spelling words went home yesterday. They are: niece, screen, shield, cheaper, tears, sneak, peaches, friends, breathes, teenager, piece, squeeze. We are focusing on the long e spellings.

Wednesday, March 21 is Marco’s Pizza Night

The Talent Show is Thursday, March 29. Please continue to check our blog and the school blog for more information.

Spring Break begins Friday March 30!

****Our fact fluency weekly practice will end next week. After spring break all math flashcards will be sent home for continued practice with fluency.  Thanks so much to our parent volunteers for your help!

Multiplication Fun!

On Tuesday, each student wore a name tag with a multiplication fact on it. We used these to help us visualize our multiplication facts and recognize them a little better. We also used them as part of our names. For example: I had the name tag that said:    9 x 7  so the students addressed me as Miss Van Arkel 63.
This made for a fun way to practice our facts!!

Multiplication and Division Facts

We are beginning the 2s facts. We have flashcards that we work on at school. You will continue to find the practice papers (thin slips of paper) come home to practice. Please continue to practice these each night.

We are also learning division along with multiplication. Please practice these facts as well. If we know  5×7= 35   then we know   35/7= 5.

It is very important that your third grader feel very confident with multiplication facts so they will be able to relate it to division.

Also, please take a look at the links on the right side of the blog under math. There are a few multiplication sites that have some fun games. Check them out!!!

Thanks for your support!

Thanksgiving Facts

For those who follow our blog outside the United States, visit this excellent History.com post about the history of Thanksgiving. And, for those of you who have not had a refresher course on this holiday,  you might find yourself learning some new facts to share around the Thanksgiving table later this week.  For those who think they know everything, test your turkey knowledge with this quiz.

If you find your family members are bored and in need of something to do, show them our blogs.  I added a new feature (the revolving globe to the right) that shows your location on the map as well as visitors from around the world.

And, to really spice up the family gathering, take your family on the BLOG SCAVENGER HUNT. This month we are sharing silly stories about silly things we have done in our lives.   Everyone is a winner in this contest.  Students will be entered in the Reading Counts drawing just for participating.  Other prizes will be offered too.
