Just Write- Monday, June 1

Parents,

Don’t forget that our Just Write celebration is June 1 at 9:30.

Your student should dress as the person they did their biography writing on.

This does not need to be expensive. Use whatever clothing items you have around the house or can borrow. Get creative!

Students will be presenting their research during our Just Write celebration.

A few things to know!

Tonight’s homework for science is to bring in a flashlight. There is a note coming home about this.

This Friday is red, white, and blue day!!

A note is coming home about our JUST WRITE celebration on June 1. The students will have some homework to get ready for this day. Please take a look at this note and help your child be ready for their presentation. Thank you!!

Looking Ahead…

Our Just Write Celebration will be held on Monday, June 1 at 9:30.

We will be sharing our writing from this year and will especially be celebrating our biography writing.

There will be more information to come about a special way we will celebrate the people your child learned so much about. Please look for this information coming home soon.

A Few IMPORTANT Things!

Don’t Forget:   Our Just Write celebration is Tuesday May 15 at 2:45. Come and help us celebrate our writing!

Field Trip: On May 23 we will be going on a field trip to Pigeon Creek Park and TunnelPark. It will be an all day trip from 9:00 to
2:00. I will need at least five parents to join us. If you are able to join us please email me or send a note. I will be talking to the third graders about this next week.

Spelling: You may have noticed that spelling lists have not been coming home as regularly. We have been using some of our spelling time to finish up some science units. We continue to work on spelling within our writing time, but we are wrapping up our units and you may not see lists coming home. Thank you!

3rd Grade Update!

Our Just Write celebration is next week. Our 3rd grade celebration will be Tuesday, May 15 at 2:45. Please join us to celebrate all the wonderful writing our third graders have accomplished this year!

The last Reading Counts ends this Friday, May 11.

Math: We completed our last benchmark assessment. This helps to know the areas that were not remembered, retained, and mastered from this year. We will be working in small groups to work on those math concepts. We will be moving into measurement next.
***Please continue to practice multiplication and division problems (even through the summer!) with your third grader. This is very crucial as the students move into fourth grade. ***

Writing: We have completed our last on-demand personal narrative writing. The goal for this piece of writing is to make it the best and it gives a chance for the students to show the writing strategies they have learned and how to use them. We have also been working on comparison essays.

Reading: We are working on another reading strategy of determining importance. We are currently looking at Fables and how we gather information from the story and determine the important lesson the author wants the reader to know.

Social Studies/Science: In social studies we are currently learning about public issues of Michigan and have learned about the issue of wind farms being built in the Great Lakes. We are learning what it means to agree or disagree and then have reasons to support. In science we are studying force and motion and simple machines. We have done a few activities to help us learn about motion and how speed and distance is effected by height of a ramp. Ask your third grader about our science activities.

Our class is preparing for our big writing celebration at Georgetown. The celebration will take place the week of May 14-18, 2012.   This is a huge celebration of our year long work in writing with student and staff stories covering every bit of space in our hallways and classrooms.

Many children like to wear our special JUST WRITE shirt for this celebration. If you would like to get one for your child, the cost is $15.00. An order form can be printed off and sent in from the blog (link below). Paper order forms will arrive home this week for all youngest and only building reps.
