Math Test Coming Up!

Parents,
We will be having our Unit 1 Math Test next Tuesday or Wednesday. It will be depending on how we do with our review on Monday. I will be letting you know!
This unit has covered multiplication and division and understanding how they relate. Please refer to my previous post HERE.

In preparation for the test, it will be so important to practice multiplication facts with your child. They should be able to show multiplication in a few different ways by using repeated addition, arrays, and area model. We have been working on these concepts in class and as part of weekly homework packets.

We have also learned the distributive property of multiplication. For example, we can find the area of the whole rectangle below by using  7 x 3 = 21.
We can also break the large rectangle into two smaller rectangles (red and white).
Then we find the area of each smaller rectangle and add.

example:  (5 x 3) + (2 x 3) =
15   +    6       =  21

Thank you for your support!

Math Test Monday

Our math test will be on Monday (not Friday). We will review on Friday and the review pages will come home. It would be very helpful to review telling time to the hour/minute and elapsed time word problems over the weekend.

For example:
8:25
25 minutes after 8
35 minutes before 9

Elapsed time word problems:
Grace went to Grandma’s house at 1:30. She stayed there for 2 hours and 25 minutes. When did she leave Grandma’s house?

Lisa leaves for practice at 4:05. She returns at 5:25. How long was she gone?

This Week…

Parents,

P.E. Cares continues until Friday. Keep those canned goods coming!

We will have our math test on Thursday. This will cover two step word problems with two operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide). We will review in class on Wednesday and the review page will come home.

Please help your third grader to continue practicing math fact fluency at home.

A book order will come home this week. If you are interested in ordering, please place your order online by Tuesday, November 24. The order will arrive before Holiday break!

A reminder: We have a snack time in the afternoon. Please be sure to send one snack. No candy please. Thank you!

Math test on Thursday!

We will have our math test on Thursday. This unit covers quadrilaterals and area and perimeter. We have been working hard in class and will be reviewing on Wednesday. The review page will come home so please help your third grader to study some of the problems on there. Many of these problems can be tricky!

Thank You!!

Math Tests this week!

We will be having our math tests this week. Students in Mrs. McDonald’s and Mrs. Flory’s math groups will have their test tomorrow. They have reviewed in class and should bring the review home to study tonight. Students in Ms VanderStel’s math group will have their test on Thursday and my math class will have the test on Friday. This unit covers multi step word problems. Please review with your student by having them read the problem, you read the problem and ask: What do I know? What do I need to know first? Can I draw what I know? Can I use a math mountain? Is there a second step? Did I answer the question? Thanks for your support!
