Math Test

Parents,

We will have our math test on Friday. This will cover place value, addition and subtraction problems, and word problems as well as some rounding.

REMINDER: Please make sure your child is practicing math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) for at least 5 minutes each day. Their goal is to master one operation before moving to another. Fact fluency is so important in understanding math concepts. I strongly suggest using MobyMax as a way of practicing. We have used this in class, but please let me know if your third grader does not remember their username or password.

We will also have a short quiz on Friday that will cover the public issue of wind farms in the Great Lakes. A review sheet should come home today. Your third grader will need to give one reason people think wind farms in the Great Lakes is a good idea and one potential problem with wind farms in the Great Lakes.

A note about science

Here’s a note from Ms VanderStel regarding science this week:

Good afternoon!  My name is Ms. VanderStel and I get the privilege of having your child for science for the next few months.  We have been learning plant parts and their functions/jobs.  A study sheet along with some other papers have come home tonight for studying.  Please spend about 10 minutes tonight and 10 minutes tomorrow night reviewing with your child for our test on Wednesday.
If you have any questions, please contact me at kvander@hpseagles.net.
Thank you!

A few things…

Our class has earned their bonus reading time!! So tomorrow we will take some time to have some extra reading. The students may bring in a small stuffed animal and blanket if they wish. Make sure these are easily transported in the backpack or plastic bag.

Economics Test:

We will review for our economics test on Friday and the test will be on Monday. The review sheet will come home. Please help your third grader to review over the weekend.

Thank you!

Social Studies Quiz and Test

Parents,
A review sheet should be coming home today for the social studies quiz on Monday. The short quiz will cover what we have studied about the movement of people, goods, and ideas. Please remind your third grader to study this for Monday. Thank you.

I am planning to have our Geography test on Thursday. I will let you know if that changes due to our four day week, but so far we are on schedule for the test next week. We will review in class and a review sheet will come home too.

Have a great weekend!   🙂

Math Test, Social Studies Quiz, & Homework

Parents,

We will have our unit 1 math test tomorrow. This will cover multiplication and division, multiplication properties, the area model for multiplication, and word problems. We have been reviewing in class the last few days. A great way to review tonight is to practice flashcards.

In social studies we have been learning about how we change and adapt to the environment. We will have a short quiz on this on Wednesday. A review page will come home.

A homework packet is coming home today and is due next Monday, the 26th.

Friday: Beach Day and Recycling Test

Our third graders have selected BEACH DAY for Friday, May 29, 2015.   Attire:  Sun glasses, sandals, sun hats, beach friendly shorts, shirts.

NO BATHING SUITS.  Save those for summer vacation!

Our Recycling test will be on Friday. We will be reviewing on Thursday and the study sheet will come home.

3rd Grade Update

Parents,

M-STEP testing starts next week. It is important that your child has enough sleep each night and a good breakfast in the morning. I have talked to the students about doing their best work as a student and these two factors will be very helpful in your child’s attitude toward doing their best.
Thanks for your support in this!

Government: We will have our test on Thursday. A review sheet went home tonight. Your child will need to know the three branches of Government, what they do, and who is in charge.

Math: We have been doing some end of the year review and testing to help us understand how we did with the math concepts this year.

Spelling: This will be our last week- until further notice- for spelling words. We will continue to work on spelling and grammar in class. Please help your child to work on their spelling words this week for the test on Friday.

Reading: We have been working on reading a text and responding in writing as well as reading and summarizing. As a class, we have also been reminding ourselves of our reading procedures-  stay in one spot, read the whole time, build stamina.
